The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day, at 8:00 a.m., in room 705, Victoria Building, the Honourable Senator Gustafson presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Gill, Gustafson, Kelleher, P.C., Mahovlich, Mercer and Tkachuk (7).

In attendance: Tara Gray and Frédéric Forge from Research Branch of the Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, the committee continued its consideration of the present state and the future of agriculture and forestry in Canada (See Issue No. 1, Tuesday, October 19, 2004, for full text of order of reference).

TOPIC: BSE Packing Capacity

WITNESSES:

Fédération des producteurs de bovins du Québec:

Michel Dessureault, President;

Gib Drury, Member of the Board of Directors;

Gaëtan Bélanger, Secretary-Treasurer.

Mr. Dessureault and Mr. Bélanger made a statement and together with the other witness answered questions.

At 9:50 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
