The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day, at 4:20 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Fitzpatrick, Grafstein, Kelleher, P.C., Massicotte, Moore, Oliver, Plamondon and Rompkey, P.C. (9).
In attendance: June Dewetering, Acting Principal, Jean Dupuis and Sheena Starky, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, the committee continued its consideration of consumer issues arising in the financial services sector. (See Issue No. 1, November 18, 2004, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)

The Chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Kovacs made a statement and, with Mr. Harries, answered questions.
It was agreed that the committee would proceed to clause by clause consideration of Bill S-25 on Thursday, May 5, 2005.
At 5:10 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:15 p.m., the committee resumed.
Ms. Durand and Mr. Kyle made statements and, with Mr. St-Amant, answered questions.
At 6:20 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:25 p.m., the committee resumed.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-25, An Act to amend the Act of incorporation of The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-25, An Act to amend the Act of incorporation of The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada.
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause by clause consideration of Bill S-25, An Act to amend the Act of incorporation of The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada.
It was moved by Senator Moore that the committee dispense with clause by clause consideration of Bill S-25 and that the Chair report the bill without amendment at the next sitting of the Senate.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
It was agreed that observations would be appended to the report on Bill S-25.
At 11:10 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:12 p.m., the committee resumed.
