The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:30 a.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Biron, Comeau, Cools, Day, Downe, Ferretti Barth, Harb, Murray, P.C., Oliver and Ringuette (10).

In attendance: Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, the committee continued its consideration of the examination of the Main Estimates laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005. (For complete text of the Order of Reference, please see Issue No. 1 of the Proceedings of the committee).

Jean-Pierre Kingsley, Chief Electoral Officer;

Diane Davidson, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Legal Counsel;

Janice Vézina, Senior Director, Election Financing and Corporate Services.

Dyane Adam, Commissioner;

Louise Guertin, Director General, Corporate Services Branch.

The Chair made a statement.

Mr. Kingsley made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:37 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:40 a.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Adam made a statement and, together with Ms. Guertin, answered questions.

At 11:40 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
