The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 3:05 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Day, Downe, Murray, P.C., Oliver, Ringuette, Stollery and Stratton (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Massicotte (1).

In attendance: Guy Beaumier and Odette Madore, Research Officers, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Federal-Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act and to make consequential amendements to other Acts (fiscal equalization payments to the provinces and funding to the territories). (For complete text of the Order of Reference, please see Issue No. 11 of the proceedings of the committee.)

At 4:08 p.m., the committee resumed.

Minister Murphy made a statement and, together with Mr. Palmer, answered questions.

At 4:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
