The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, the Chair, the Honourable George J. Furey, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cook, Comeau, Di Nino, Furey, Jaffer, Keon, Massicotte, and Stratton (8).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C. (1).

Also in attendance: Mr. Paul C. Bélisle, Clerk of the Senate, other senior Senate officials.

At 9:25 a.m., the committee proceeded in public.

IE/2005-07-20/144 — Application for International Travel — Senator St.Germain

Senator St. Germain presented an application to attend meetings with officials of the Crow Nation tribal government and with the Chief Justice of the Crow Nation in Crow Nation, Montana from August 18 to 21, 2005. The estimated cost of the trip is $3,327.30. Senator St. Germain noted that he would make a report to the Senate regarding his findings on the U.S. Aboriginal Justice Tribal System.

After debate, the Chairman thanked Senator St. Germain and asked him to absent himself while the committee considered the request in camera.

At 9:35 a.m., the committee proceeded in camera.

At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

IE/2005-10-27/162 — Senator Buchanan — Application for International Travel

Senator Buchanan presented an application for international travel to attend the 13th Annual US-Canada Conference and the 21st Annual Maple Leaf Banquet sponsored by the New England Governors — New England/ Canada Business Council in Boston, Massachusetts from November 5-6, 2005. The estimated cost of the trip is $2,294.96.

It was agreed to consider the application later, in camera, without the Senator being in attendance.

IE/2005-10-27/163 — Senator Plamondon — Application for International Travel

Senator Plamondon presented an application for international travel to attend the Forum on Migration, Immigration and Integration organized by Parliamentarians for Global Action in Dublin, Ireland, from November 15- 21, 2005. The estimated cost of the trip is $1,933.83.

After discussion, it was agreed to consider the application later, in camera, without the senator being in attendance.

IE/2005-10-27/164 — Senator Rompkey — Application for International Travel

Senator Rompkey presented an application for international travel to attend the 90th Anniversary Commemoration of the Somme Campaign in Arras, France from June 24 to July 4, 2006 to partake in the 90th Anniversary Celebrations and Dedications of the Somme Campaign and to engage in research on the Voluntary Aid Detachment. The estimated cost of the trip is $7,472.50.

After discussion, it was agreed to consider the application later, in camera, without the Senator being in attendance.

At 8:56 a.m., the committee proceeded in camera.

At 9:39 a.m., the committee proceeded in camera, senators only.

At 10:46 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
