The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, to which was referred Bill C-36, to change the boundaries of the Acadie—Bathurst and Miramichi electoral districts; Bill C-302, to change the name of the electoral district of Kitchener—Wilmot—Wellesley—Woolwich; and Bill C-304, to change the name of the electoral district of Battle River, met this day at 10:47 a.m. to give consideration to the bills.

The Chairman: Honourable senators, is it agreed that the committee move to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-36?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the title stand postponed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 1 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 2 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 3 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall clause 4 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall schedule 1 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall schedule 2 carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Shall the title carry?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Is it agreed that this bill be adopted without amendment?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Does the committee wish to append observations?

An Hon. Senator: Absolutely.

The Chairman: Could we discuss the observations at the end of our proceedings today, once we have agreed on the three bills?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Is it agreed that I report this bill to the Senate, with observations?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: We will turn now to Bill C-302.

Senator Milne: I move that we report Bill C-302 to the Senate without amendments and without observations.

The Chairman: We have a few observations. If you wish, Senator Milne, we will discuss them at the end of the committee.

Is it agreed, senators?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Carried.

Senator Milne: This name is going back to the original.

The Chairman: We will make those observations and decide what we will do with them.

We will now turn to Bill C-304.

Senator Joyal: I move that it be adopted.

The Chairman: Is it agreed?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: We will discuss the observations. Bill C-304 is adopted without amendment.
