The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 8:09 a.m., this day, in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Mitchell, Oliver, Peterson and Tkachuk (7).
In attendance: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Marc Leblanc, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 the committee began its consideration of Bill C-15, to amend the Agricultural Marketing Programs Act.
APPEARING:
David L. Anderson, M.P., Parliamentary Secretary (for the Canadian Wheat Board) to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board.
WITNESSES:

Bruce Langevin, Assistant Director, Agriculture Marketing Programs Act, Financial Guarantee Programs Division.
Mr. Anderson made a statement and, together with Messrs Gartley and Langevin, answered questions.
At 8:56 a.m., it was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-15, to amend the Agricultural Marketing Programs Act.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Campbell, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Mercer, Mitchell, Oliver, Peterson, Segal and Tkachuk (10).
In attendance: Frédéric Forge, Jean-Denis Fréchette, Marc Leblanc, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of the present state and the future of agriculture and forestry in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
In accordance with rule 92(2)(f), the committee considered its draft interim report.
It was agreed that the committee adopt the draft report with the changes discussed as its interim report and that the Chair table the report in the Senate.
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
At 8:22 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
