The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:37 p.m., this day, in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Chaput, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Oliver and Peterson. (6).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

The Chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Chartrand, Ms. Cromey and Mr. Morin each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

Ms. Villeneuve made a statement and answered questions.
At 9:37 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 10:15 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:18 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.
The Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C., moved that for the purpose of the committee trip to Maniwaki the Chair be authorized on June 8, 2007 to hold meetings, to receive and authorize the printing of the evidence when a quorum is not present, even though a representative of the government may not be present.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 10:36 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
