The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met at 4:20 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Biron, Eyton, Goldstein, Grafstein, Harb, Massicotte, Meighen, Moore, Ringuette and Tkachuk (11).
In attendance: June Dewetering and Philippe Bergevin, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 2, 2006, the committee continued its study of the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For the complete text of Order of Reference, see the proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Steve McGirr, Senior Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer, Treasury and Risk Management, CIBC;
Brian Porter, Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer, The Bank of Nova Scotia;
Denis Pellerin, Senior Vice-President, Operational and Market Risk Management, National Bank of Canada;
Karen Michell, Vice-President, Banking Operations.
At 4:20 p.m., Mr. McGirr made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:40 p.m., pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 2, 2006, the committee continued its study on issues dealing with interprovincial barriers to trade. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see the proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5.)

At 5:40 p.m., Mr. Weir made a statement and answered questions.
