The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 4:08 p.m., in room 160-S Centre Block, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Dallaire, Kinsella, Munson, Nancy Ruth and Pépin (6).

In attendance: Laura Barnett, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee began its consideration of examining cases of alleged discrimination in the hiring and promotion practices of the Federal Public Service.

WITNESSES:

Public Service Commission of Canada:

Linda Gobeil, Senior Vice-President, Policy Branch;

Paula Green, Director General, Equity and Diversity;

Dan Coffin, Director General, Resourcing Services.

Ms. Gobeil made a statement and together with the other witnesses answered questions.

The committee proceeded to consider its draft budgets.

The Honourable Senator Pépin moved that the committee concur in the following budget applications and that the Chair be authorized to submit the said budgets to the Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

Special Study on the Rights and freedoms of children

All Other Expenditures    12,700
TOTAL    $ 262,346

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
