The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 1:04 p.m., in room B&C of the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, the Chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Munson, Nancy Ruth and Poy (4).
In attendance: Laura Barnett, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of Canada's international obligations in regard to the rights and freedoms of children. At 2:10 p.m., Ms. Rothman, Ms. Wolff and Mr. Derksen-Hiebert each made statements and answered questions.
At 3:15 p.m., Ms. Rusch-Drutz, Ms. Friendly and Ms. Mashkuri each made statements and answered questions.
At 4:10 p.m., in a roundtable format, the committee heard from children and youth. Each witness made a statement.
At 5:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day in camera at 4:02 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Carstairs, P.C., Munson, Poy and Stratton (5).
In attendance: Laura Barnett, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of examining cases of alleged discrimination in the hiring and promotion practices of the Federal Public Service. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f) the committee met in camera for the consideration of a draft report.
It was moved that the report be adopted.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 4:51 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:06 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of reviewing the machinery of government dealing with Canada's international and national human rights obligations.
