The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4 p.m. to elect the Chair.

Shaila Anwar, Clerk of the Committee: Honourable senators, I see that we have a quorum. As clerk of your committee, it is my duty to preside over the election of the Chair and I am ready to receive a motion to that effect.
[Translation]
Senator Nolin: I would like to nominate Senator Donald Oliver as chair of the committee.
[English]
Ms. Anwar: Are there any other nominations?
Senator Milne: I move that nominations be closed.
Ms. Anwar: It is your pleasure, honourable senators, to adopt the motion?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
Ms. Anwar: I declare the motion carried and I invite Senator Oliver to take the chair.
Senator Donald H. Oliver (Chairman) in the chair.
Senator Milne: Congratulations, Mr. Chair. Might I suggest that we move in camera to discuss the future business of the committee?
The Chairman: It is agreed, honourable senators?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
The Chairman: Honourable senators, is it agreed that we move in camera and following that, is it agreed that staff of senators can stay in the room during the deliberations?
Hon. Senators: Agreed.
The committee continued in camera.
