The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, at 9:33 a.m., in room 356- S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Consiglio Di Nino, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Cordy, Di Nino, Fraser, Hays, P.C., Joyal, P.C., Keon, Losier-Cool, Robichaud, P.C. (9).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Goldstein (1).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Analyst and Michel Bédard, Analyst.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2006, the committee continued its examination of the motion that whenever the Senate is sitting, the proceedings of the upper chamber, like those of the lower one, be televised, or otherwise audio-visually recorded, so that those proceedings can be carried live or replayed on CPAC, or any other television station, at times that are convenient for Canadians. WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Tommy Banks;

The Honourable Senator Marilyn Trenholme Counsell.

The witnesses each made a brief statement in turn and answered questions.

At 11:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
