The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Comeau, De Bané, P.C., Goldstein, Losier- Cool, Murray, P.C., Poulin and Tardif (8).

Also present: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the Act. (For the complete text of the Order of Reference, see Issue No. 1 of the proceedings of the committee.)

WITNESSES:

Canada Public Service Agency:

Monique Boudrias, Executive Vice-President;

Kelly Collins, Director General, Research, Strategic Planning and Policy Development.

Department of Justice Canada:

François Nadeau, Counsel, Treasury Board Portfolio, Legal Services.

Ms. Boudrias made a statement and, together with Mr. Collins and Mr. Nadeau, answered questions.

At 6:44 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:46 p.m., in accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.

At 6:53 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Comeau, De Bané, P.C., Goldstein, Losier- Cool, Murray, P.C. and Poulin (7).

Also present: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda.

It was agreed that a member of Senator Dallaire's staff be permitted to remain in the room while the committee meets in camera today.

At 5:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Ms. Routhier-Boudreau made a statement and, with Ms. Côté, answered questions.

Ms. Boulay LeBlanc made a statement and, with Mr. Boudreau, answered questions.

At 6:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
