The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 8:58 a.m., in the Provincial Ballroom "A", Radisson Hotel, Winnipeg, Manitoba, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dyck, Hubley, Lang, Lovelace Nicholas, Peterson, St. Germain, P.C., and Sibbeston (7).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and on other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. The chair made opening remarks.
It was agreed that presentations or briefs brought in by witnesses be circulated to members of the committee even if available in one official language only.
Mr. Evans made a statement and responded to questions.
At 10:29 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:40 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Fontaine made a statement and responded to questions.
At 11:25 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:28 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Shannacappo made a statement and responded to questions.
At 12:07 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

- Discussion Paper from Treaty One First Nations, dated May 25, 2009, entitled One of the Visions for the Future Treaty One First Nations is Examining (English only). (Exhibit 5900-2.40/A1-SS-1-8 "5").
At 3:55 p.m. Mr. Daniels made a statement.
At 3:56 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:00 p.m., the committee resumed.
