The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:35 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Carignan, Chaput, Day, Di Nino, Eggleton, P.C., Gerstein, Mitchell, Neufeld and Ringuette (10).

In attendance: Jean-François Nadeau and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee considered matters related to its business.

At 9:54 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:57 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 10:42 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010. The chair made a statement.

Ms. Barrados made a statement and, together with Messrs. Lemaire and Ste-Marie, answered questions.

At 7:40 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:43 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Benson, Mr. Sproule and Ms. Urquhart each made a statement and, together with Messrs. Meunier and Mills, answered questions.

At 8:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
