The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 5:33 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Bill Rompkey, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Cook, Hubley, MacDonald, Manning, Raine, Robichaud, P.C., and Rompkey, P.C. (9).
In attendance: Claude Emery, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 12, 2009, the committee continued to examine the issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Sylvain Paradis, Director General, Ecosystem Science Directorate;
Burt Hunt, Regional Director, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management, Central and Arctic Region.
Mr. Da Pont made a statement and, together with Mr. Spurrell, Ms. Breton, Mr. Paradis and Mr. Hunt, answered questions.
At 7:46 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
