The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:30 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Consiglio Di Nino, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Di Nino, Downe, Mahovlich, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C., Stewart Olsen and Wallin (8).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Jennifer Paul, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the committee continued its examination on the rise of China, India and Russia in the global economy and the implications for Canadian policy. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 3.)

Mr. Borg and Ms. Bobrysheva made a statement and answered questions.
