The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 9:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Day, Eggleton, P.C., Finley, Gerstein, Marshall, Meighen, Murray, P.C., Oliver, Ringuette and Runciman (11).

In attendance: John Bulmer and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, with the exception of Parliament Vote 10. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada:

James Callon, Superintendent of Bankruptcy;

Patricia Alférez, Deputy Superintendent.

The chair made an opening statement.

The Honourable Senator Finley moved that the Honourable Senator Gerstein be deputy chair of the committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Callon made a statement and, together with Ms. Alférez, answered questions.

At 11:33 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Kondo made a statement and, together with Ms. Houle, answered questions.

At 7:49 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:51 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Menke made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
