The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans has the honour to table its
FIRST REPORT
Your committee, which was authorized by the Senate to incur expenses for the purpose of its examination and consideration of such legislation and other matters as were referred to it, reports, pursuant to rule 104(2), that the expenses incurred of the committee during the Second Session of the Fortieth Parliament are as follows:
With respect to its special study on issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans:
Transportation and Communications $ 218,365
Professional and Other Services 15,938 All Other Expenditures 15,185 Witness Expenses 13,434 TOTAL $ 262,922
In addition to the expenses for its special study as set out above, the committee also incurred general postal charges in the amount of $ 327.
During this session, the committee considered one order of reference, held 29 meetings and heard more than 46 hours of testimony from 71 witnesses. In total, the committee produced 7 reports. In addition to hearings in Ottawa, the committee conducted fact-finding work in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, in Hay River and Inuvik, Northwest Territories, in Juneau and Sitka, Alaska and in Victoria, British Columbia, and held public hearings in Yellowknife and Inuvik, Northwest Territories.
