The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:22 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Di Nino, Downe, Finley, Frum, Jaffer, Plett, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C., and Wallin (10).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its examination on the rise of China, India and Russia in the global economy and the implications for Canadian policy. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada:

Paul Davidson, President;

Pari Johnston, Director, International Relations.

Mr. Davidson made a statement and, with Ms. Johnston, answered questions.

At 5:52 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

Rénald Gilbert, Director General, International Region.

Canada Border Services Agency:

Geoff Leckey, Director General, Intelligence and Targeting;

Rick Herringer, Director of the National Security Screening Division, Intelligence and Targeting Operations.

Messrs. Hage, Gilbert and Leckey each made a statement, and together with Mr. Herringer, answered questions.

At 12:24 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
