The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, in camera, at 4:08 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Janis G. Johnson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Brazeau, Jaffer, Johnson, Kochhar, Mitchell and Nancy Ruth (7).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Anna Gay, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communication Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the committee continued its examination of issues relating to human rights and, inter alia, to review the machinery of government dealing with Canada's international and national human rights obligations.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
The committee considered of a draft report.
At 6:06 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:15 p.m., the committee resumed and continued to consider a draft report.
At 7:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, in camera, at 4:07 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Janis G. Johnson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Jaffer, Johnson, Mitchell, Nancy Ruth, Plett and Zimmer (7).
In attendance: Julian Walker, Anna Gay and Jennifer Bird, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communication Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the committee began its examination of the issues of discrimination in the hiring and promotion practices of the Federal Public Service.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
The committee considered of a draft report.
It was agreed that the report be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final text.
At 5:59 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the committee continued its examination of issues relating to human rights and, inter alia, to review the machinery of government dealing with Canada's international and national human rights obligations.

It was agreed that the report be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final text.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Baker, P.C., Brazeau, Jaffer, Kochhar, Mitchell, Nancy Ruth and Stratton (7).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Lovelace Nicholas and Plett (2).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Anna Gay, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the committee began its examination of Bill S-4, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves.
