The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:05 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, De Bané, P.C., Fortin- Duplessis, Losier-Cool, Mockler and Tardif (8).

Also present: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Francine Presseault, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

WITNESSES:

Industry Canada:

France Pégeot, Assistant Deputy Minister, Regional Operations;

Carmen DeMarco, Program Manager, Program Delivery Northeastern Ontario, Program Delivery;

Diane Bertrand, Associate Director, HR Programs, Human Resources Branch.

Ms. Pégeot made a presentation and, along with Mr. DeMarco and Ms. Bertrand, answered questions.

At 6:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it. WITNESSES:

Public Health Agency of Canada:

James Ladouceur, Director General, Human Resources Directorate;

Marc Desroches, Manager, Diversity and Official Languages, Learning Diversity and Employee Programs Division.

Mr. Ladouceur made a presentation and, along with Mr. Desroches, answered questions.

The committee suspended at 6:17 p.m.

At 6:20 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) of the Senate, the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda.

At 6:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
