The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:40 a.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Percy E. Downe, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, De Bané, P.C., Downe, Duffy, Finley, Fortin-Duplessis, Johnson, Mahovlich, Mockler, Robichaud and P.C., Smith (Cobourg) (11).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the committee continued its examination of the political and economic developments in Brazil and the implications for Canadian policy and interests in the region, and other related matters. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

At 10:45 a.m., the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk took the chair.

Mr. Zablocki made a statement and with Ms. Lostracco and Mr. Jeglic answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:34 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Cartmill, Mr. Haynal and Mr. Woods made statements and with Mr. Ducharme answered questions.

At 12:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
