The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 6:37 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Buth, Callbeck, Day, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Marshall, Nancy Ruth, Neufeld, Peterson, Plett, Ringuette and Runciman (12).

In attendance: Édison Roy-César and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, the committee began its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.

WITNESSES:

Treasury Board of Canada:

Bill Matthews, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Sally Thornton, Executive Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates, Expenditure Management Sector;

Marcia Santiago, Senior Director, Expenditure Information Division;

Darryl Sprecher, Director, Expenditure Management Portfolio.

Mr. Matthews made a statement and, together with Ms. Thornton, Ms. Santiago and Mr. Sprecher, answered questions.

At 8:18 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
