The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 9, Victoria Building, at 5:02 p.m., the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Fortin-Duplessis, Mockler and Tardif (5).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Language Act and of the regulations and directives made under it. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its examination on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)

Marc Tremblay, Executive Director, Official Languages Centre of Excellence, Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Ms. Charette made a presentation and, along with all the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 6:30 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6:33 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee continued in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the chair would seek authority from the Senate for the following order of reference:
That the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages be authorized to study and to report on Air Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act;
That the papers and evidence received and taken and work accomplished by the committee on this subject since the beginning of the Second Session of the Thirty-ninth Parliament be referred to the committee; and
That the committee report from time to time to the Senate, but no later than March 31, 2012, and that the committee retain all the powers necessary to publicize its findings until June 30, 2012.
At 6:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
