The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room 9, Victoria Building, at 5 p.m., the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Fortin-Duplessis, Losier-Cool, Mockler, Poirier and Tardif (7).
In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its examination on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 2.)
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, the committee began its study on Air Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act.
WITNESSES:
Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne (FCFA) du Canada:
Diane Côté, Director of Government and Community Relations;
Serge Quinty, Director of Communications.
Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN):
Sylvia Martin-Laforge, Director General;
Stephen D. Thompson, Director of Policy, Research and Public Affairs.
Ms. Côté made a presentation and, along with Mr. Quinty, answered questions.
At 5:55 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 6 p.m., the sitting resumed.
Ms. Martin-Laforge made a presentation and, along with Mr. Thompson, answered questions.
At 6:50 p.m., the sommittee suspended.
At 6:55 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
At 7:10 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
