The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, De Bané, P.C., Fortin- Duplessis, McIntyre, Mockler, Poirier, Robichaud, P.C., and Tardif (9).

Other senator(s) in attendance: The Honourable Senator Charette-Poulin (1).

Also present: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Brigitte Lemay, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the committee continued its study on the use of the Internet, new media and social media, and the respect for Canadians' language rights. (For the full text of the order of reference, see Issue No. 2 of the committee proceedings.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report in camera.

At 5:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the committee resumed in public.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 17, 2011, the committee continued its study on CBC/Radio-Canada's obligations under the Official Languages Act and some aspects of the Broadcasting Act. (For the full text of the order of reference, see Issue No. 8 of the committee proceedings.)

Mr. Beaulieu made an opening statement and answered questions.
