The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera this day at 6:05 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cochrane, Hubley, Losier-Cool, Lovelace Nicholas, MacDonald, Manning, Oliver, Patterson, Poirier and Raine (10)
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Sunday, June 26, 2011, the committee began to examine issues relating to the federal government's current and evolving policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee discussed draft reports.
It was agreed that the reports entitled Seeing the Light: Report on Staffed Lighthouses in Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia and Report on the Implementation of the Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act be adopted and that the chair be authorized to table the reports in the Senate as soon as possible and to request responses from the government.
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
At 6:27 p.m., the committee proceeded in public to consider a draft budget.
After debate, it was agreed that the following special study budget application (policy framework for managing Canada's fisheries and oceans), for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012, be adopted and submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budget and Administration.
