The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day, at 2:36 p.m. in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Mobina S. B. Jaffer, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Boisvenu, Harb, Hubley, Jaffer, Meredith, White and Zimmer (8).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Lyne Casavan, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament, and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the committee continued its examination of cyberbullying in Canada with regard to Canada's international human rights obligations under Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESSES:

Congress of Aboriginal Peoples:

Jenna Burke, National Youth Policy Coordinator.

Jer's Vision:

Jeremy Dias, Director and Founder.

Nova Scotia Department of Education:

Don Glover, Director, Student Services Division, Public School Branch (by video conference);

Rola AbiHanna, Guidance Consultant, Student Services Division (by video conference).

Ms. Burke and Mr. Dias each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 3:38 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:42 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. AbiHanna and Mr. Glover each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 4:29 p.m., the committee resumed in camera and, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) considered a draft agenda.

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to remain in the room for the in camera portion of today's meeting.

At 4:36 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
