The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met in camera this day 12:20 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Roméo Antonius Dallaire, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Day, Nolin, Plett and Wallin (5).
In attendance: Martin Auger, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, and delegated on Monday October 3, 2011 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families. Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the subcommittee met in camera to consider future business.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
Following the subcommittee's fact-finding mission in Quebec City and Valcartier, Senator Plett congratulated the interpreters, Ceri Billinger and Emilie Sabor, who accompanied the subcommittee, for their professional and excellent work during the trip.
It was agreed that the subcommittee's next study will be focused on mental health.
At 1:15 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
