The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Mockler, Smith (Saurel) and Wells (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 8.)

WITNESSES:

National Research Council of Canada:

Michel A. Piché, Vice President, Corporate Management & Chief Financial Officer;

Gail E. McLellan, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Director General, Finance Branch;

Bogdan Ciobanu, Vice President, Industrial Research Assistance Program.

International Development Research Centre:

Stephen McGurk, Acting Vice President, Programs and Partnership Branch;

Sylvain Dufour, Vice President, Resources, and Chief Financial Officer.

Mr. Piché and Mr. McGurk each made a statement and, together with Ms. McLellan, Mr. Ciobanu and Mr. Dufour, answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
