The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Hervieux- Payette, P.C., Maltais, Mockler, Smith (Saurel), and Wallace (10).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 26, 2015, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 28.)

WITNESSES:

Employment and Social Development Canada:

Alain P. Séguin, Chief Financial Officer;

Michel Racine, Senior Director, Planning and Expenditure Management;

Paul Thompson, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Skills and Employment Branch.

National Defence:

Claude Rochette, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Finance and Corporate Services;

Patrick Finn, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel Group;

Jaime Pitfield, Assistant Deputy Minister, Infrastructure and Environment;

Major-General John Madower, Chief of Program.

Mr. Séguin made a statement and, together with Mr. Racine and Mr. Thompson, answered questions.

Mr. Rochette made a statement and, together with Major-General Madower, Mr. Finn and Mr. Pitfield, answered questions.

At 11:27 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
