The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans has the honour to present its
THIRD REPORT
Your Committee, which was authorized by the Senate on Monday, December 9, 2013, to examine and report on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada, respectfully requests funds for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, and requests, for the purpose of such study, that it be empowered to:
(a) engage the services of such counsel, technical, clerical and other personnel as may be necessary;
(b) adjourn from place to place within Canada; and
(c) travel inside Canada.
Pursuant to Chapter 3:06, section 2(1)(c) of the Senate Administrative Rules, the budget submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration and the report thereon of that committee are appended to this report.

Extract from the Journals of the Senate, Monday, December 9, 2013:
The Honourable Senator Manning moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator :
That the Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be authorized to examine and report on the regulation of aquaculture, current challenges and future prospects for the industry in Canada; and
That the papers and evidence received and taken and work accomplished by the committee on this subject during the First Session of the Forty-First Parliament be referred to the committee; and
That the committee report from time to time to the Senate but no later than June 30, 2015, and that the committee retain all powers necessary to publicize its findings for 180 days after the tabling of the final report.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
A budget authorization request in connection with this special study was adopted during the First Session of the Forty-first Parliament, however, no expenses were incurred.
GENERAL ESTIMATE OF THE TOTAL COST OF THE SPECIAL STUDY
The Committee expects to submit another budget authorization request in connection with this special study, during the next fiscal year, amounting to $601,858 for the whole study.
