The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:05 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Roméo Antonius Dallaire, presiding.
Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Day, Lang, Nolin and Wells (5).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Stewart Olsen (1).
In attendance: Martin Auger, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, and delegated on Monday, December 2, 2013 by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee began its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families.

Guy Parent, Veterans Ombudsman;
Gary Walbourne, Executive Director, Operations and Deputy Ombudsman;
Colonel (Ret'd) Denys Guérin, Team Leader for the New Veterans Charter Review.
The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Parent made a statement and, together with Mr. Walbourne and Colonel (Ret'd) Denys Guérin, answered questions.
At 1:17 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
