The Subcommittee on Diversity met this day at 2:30 p.m., in room 172-E, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Mobina S. B. Jaffer, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Jaffer, Marshall, Omidvar and Tannas (4).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to rule 12-7(1) of the Rules of the Senate, the committee continued its consideration of financial and administrative matters concerning the Senate's internal administration.

WITNESS:

Luc Presseau, Director, Human Resources Directorate.

As individuals:

Witness A;

Witness B.

The Honourable Senator Marshall moved:

That the chair and deputy be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the subcommittee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses, and to schedule hearings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Omidvar moved:

That the subcommittee publish its proceedings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Tannas moved:

That the chair, on behalf of the subcommittee, direct the staff in the preparation of studies, analysis, summaries, and draft reports.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Marshall moved:

That, pursuant to the Senate guidelines for witness expenses, the subcommittee may reimburse reasonable travelling and living expenses of one witness per organization upon application, but that the chair be authorized to approve expenses of a second witness from the same organization should there be exceptional circumstances.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Omidvar moved:

That the chair and deputy chair be empowered to allow coverage by electronic media of the subcommittee's public proceedings with the least possible disruption of its hearings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Tannas moved:

That the chair be authorized to request transcripts of in camera meetings and interpretation as needed; and

That one copy of the transcript of each in camera meeting be kept in the subcommittee clerk's office for consultation by members of the subcommittee only.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Marshall moved:

That each subcommittee member be allowed to have one staff person present at in camera meetings.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Presseau made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:09 p.m., the subcommittee suspended.

At 3:12 p.m., the subcommittee, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(c), resumed in camera to continue its consideration of financial and administrative matters concerning the Senate's internal administration.

The subcommittee considered personnel matters.

Each witness made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:32 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
