The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:31 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boisvenu, Cormier, Dawson, Doyle, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, Griffin, MacDonald, Mercer, Runciman and Saint-Germain (11).
In attendance: Jed Chong and Nicole Sweeney, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the committee continued its examination of the regulatory and technical issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada:
Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner of Canada;
Patricia Kosseim, Senior General Counsel and Director General, Legal Services, Policy, Research and Technology Analysis Branch.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Therrien made a statement and, together with Ms. Kosseim, answered questions.
At 10:19 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:23 a.m., the committee resumed in camera, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room.
At 10:27 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:28 a.m., the committee resumed in public.
The Honourable Senator Cormier moved:
That the following special study budget application (Study on the regulatory and technical issues related to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, in the amount of $ 87,142 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
