The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 12:04 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable Jean-Guy Dagenais, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Mitchell and Runciman (3).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Wallin (1).

In attendance: Isabelle Lafontaine-Emond, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, January 28, 2016, and delegated on Monday, February 1, 2016, by the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, the subcommittee continued its study on the services and benefits provided to members of the Canadian Forces; to veterans; to members and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and their families.

WITNESSES:

Office of the Veterans Ombudsman:

Guy Parent, Veterans Ombudsman;

Sharon Squire, Deputy Veterans Ombudsman and Executive Director of Operations.

The deputy chair made a statement.

Mr. Parent made a statement and, together with Ms. Squire, answered questions.

At 12:42 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
