The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 8:33 a.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Leo Housakos, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Cordy, Downe, Furey, Housakos, Lang, Marshall, Munson, Neufeld, Plett, Smith (Saurel), Tannas, Tkachuk, Wells and White (15).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Fraser (1).

Also in attendance: Nicole Proulx, Chief Corporate Services Officer and Clerk of the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, Charles Robert, Clerk of the Senate and Clerk of the Parliaments and Chief Legislative Officer, Michel Patrice, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel and Chief, Parliamentary Precinct Services and other senior Senate officials.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

CIBA/2015-06-18/247(P) — Adoption of Minutes of Proceedings

It was moved by Senator Smith (Saurel) that the minutes of proceedings of June 11, 2015, in public portion, be adopted.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

CIBA/2015-06-18/248(P) — Working Group on Senators' Services

Miranda Edwards, Project Coordinator and Policy Writer, Finance and Procurement and Amanda McLaren, Special Assistant to the Honourable Senator Marshall, made a presentation regarding a proposal to establish a Working Group on Senators' Services to support consultation and collaboration between senators' offices and the Senate Administration, and answered questions.

After debate, it was agreed that a working group on senators' services be established and that the working group be authorized to conduct consultations and outreach for its initiatives within the Senate to further its mandate of fostering innovation and employee engagement.

CIBA/2015-06-18/249(P) — Training Initiatives for Senators and Staff

Nicole Proulx, Chief Corporate Services Officer, presented a proposal regarding training initiatives for senators and staff.

After debate, it was agreed that the Senate Administration be authorized to implement training initiatives for senators and staff including formal and informal training, tools and communication.

At 8:52 a.m., the committee continued in camera.

At 10:18 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
