The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:00 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Senator Ghislain Maltais, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Maltais, McIntyre, Mercer, Moore, Ogilvie, Oh, Plett, Tardif, Unger (11).

In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly and Khamla Heminthavong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on January 28, 2016, the committee began its study on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector.

WITNESSES:

Egg Farmers of Canada:

Peter Clarke, Chair;

Tim Lambert, Chief Executive Officer.

Chicken Farmers of Canada:

Dave Janzen, Chair;

Mike Dungate, Executive Director.

Turkey Farmers of Canada:

Mark Davies, Chair;

Phil Boyd, Executive Director.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Clarke, Mr. Janzen and Mr. Davies made statements and, together with Mr. Lambert, Mr. Dungate and Mr. Boyd, answered questions.

The chair made a statement.

After debate, it was agreed:

That the following budget application (on international market access priorities for the Canadian agricultural and agri-food sector) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
