The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Diane F. Griffin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Doyle, Gagné, Griffin, Oh, Petitclerc and Tardif (7).
In attendance: Aïcha Coulibaly, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 9, 2017, the committee continued its study on the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors. Michelle Gartland, Deputy Director, Clean Technology;
Judith Gelbman, Director, Environment Division;
Matthew Smith, Director of the Technical Barriers and Regulations.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Burack made a statement and, together with Ms. Jones, answered questions.
At 8:46 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:55 a.m., the committee resumed.
Ms. Renart made a statement and, together with Ms. Lévesque, Ms. Gartland, Ms. Gelbman and Mr. Smith, answered questions.
At 9:44 a.m., the committee began its consideration of a draft budget.
The Honourable Senator Gagné moved:
That the following special study budget application (study the potential impact of the effects of climate change on the agriculture, agri-food and forestry sectors), for $159,874 for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, be approved, for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration following a final review by the Senate Administration that will be overseen by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure:
Activity 1: Vancouver, BC and Calgary, AB $159,874 TOTAL $159,874
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 9:50 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
