The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.
Members of the committee present: Senators Andreychuk, Cools, Eaton, Forest, Marshall, Mockler and Pratte (7).
In attendance: Alex Smith and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 15, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Supplementary Estimates (C) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.
WITNESSES:
Global Affairs Canada:
Arun Thangaraj, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer;
Shirley Carruthers, Director General, Financial Resource Planning and Management Bureau.
Mr. Thangaraj made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:38 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:42 p.m., the committee proceeded in camera.
It was agreed that the senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, the committee continued its consideration of such issues as may arise from time to time relating to federal estimates generally, including the public accounts, reports of the Auditor General and government finance. Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
The committee considered a draft agenda for the special study on issues related to public finances.
At 8:13 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:14 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
The Honourable Senator Forest moved:
That the following budget request for a fact-finding mission to the Public Service Pay Centre, in Miramichi, New Brunswick, for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, be approved and submitted to the Standing Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:
