The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Cools, Coyle, Deacon, Eaton, Jaffer, Marshall, Mockler, Moncion, Neufeld and Pratte (11).

In attendance: Alex Smith and Shaowei Pu, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Marcy Galipeau, Chief, Strategic Communications, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 67.)

WITNESSES:

National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces:

Claude Rochette, Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer;

Patrick Finn, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel;

Elizabeth Van Allen, Assistant Deputy Minister (Infrastructure and Environment);

Vice-Admiral Darren Hawco, Acting Vice Chief of the Defence Staff.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Rochette made a statement and, together with Mr. Finn and Mr. Hawco, answered questions.

At 7:24 p.m., the Honourable Senator Deacon replaced the Honourable Senator Coyle as a member of the committee.

At 8:09 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:14 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators' staff and the representative from the Senate Communications Directorate be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 8:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
