The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:02 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cormier, Gagné, Maltais, McIntyre, Moncion, Poirier and Smith (7).

In attendance: Joëlle Nadeau, Legislative Clerk, Committees Directorate, Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2017, the committee continued to examine and report on Canadians' views about modernizing the Official Languages Act. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

WITNESSES:

Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique:

Marie-France Lapierre, President and Trustee, Fraser Valley Region;

Marc-André Ouellette, Vice President and Trustee, Southern Vancouver Island Region.

Conseil des écoles fransaskoises:

Alpha Barry, President

Hélène Grimard, Vice President.

Fédération nationale des conseils scolaires francophones:

Roger Paul, Executive Director;

Jean Lemay, Member of Executive Committee.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Lapierre, Mr. Ouellette, Mr. Barry, Ms. Grimard, Mr. Lemay and Mr. Paul each made statements and answered questions

At 6:56 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:03 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 7:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
