The following expenses, incurred by the Committee, were charged to the budget of the Committees and Private Legislation Directorate:

Witnesses' expenses

Your Committee heard from 186 witnesses and held 32 meetings during which it reviewed ten Bills (S-7, C-6, C-13, C-23, C-24, C-25, C-48, C-56, C-71, C-83); updated its study on the Synfuels Project; monitor all matters related to the implementation and application of the Act to establish a Federal Environment Assessment Process; completed a study on the AWOS system in tabling a report entitled "Pull up! Pull up!"; and undertook a major study of the policy options available to the Government to complete the network of pristine areas that represent Canada's natural regions and of the creation of a National Protected Areas Strategy and made recommendations thereon.

Your Committee travelled on a fact-finding mission to Washington, D.C., March 6 to 9, 1995 and, on its National Protected Areas' mandate, travelled to Prairies' sites, October 16 to 20, 1994; to British Columbia' sites, March 20 to 24, 1995; and to Nova Scotia' sites, May 8 to 11, 1995. The Committee sent delegations of members to fourteen major conferences.

In all, your Committee issued twenty reports in relation to its work.

The Special Committee of the Senate on the Pearson Airport Agreements, which was empowered by the Senate on May 4, 1995 to incur expenses for the purpose of its examination upon all matters concerning the policies and negotiations leading up to, and including, the agreements respecting the redevelopment and operation of Terminals 1 and 2 at Lester B. Pearson International Airport and the circumstances relating to the cancellation thereof, reports, pursuant to Rule 104, that the expenses incurred by the Committee during the First Session of the Thirty-Fifth Parliament are as follows:

During the session, the Committee held 31 meetings, heard more than 140 hours of sworn testimony, given by 92 witnesses.

In addition, the Committee presented three reports. The First Report, adopted on June 12, 1995, requested the approval of its budget application, the Second Report, presented on October 17, 1995, was an Address to His Excellency the Governor General praying for the release of the Submissions to Treasury Board in August 1993 regarding the Pearson Airport Agreements and the Third Report, presented on December 13, 1995, which included the Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations of the Committee, a Dissenting Opinion, a Report of the Chairman and Deputy-Chairman on the Power to Send For Persons, Papers and Records, and appendices.
