Presentation of Reports from Standing or Special Committees

The Honourable Senator Bacon presented the following:

TUESDAY, September 25, 2001

The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications has the honour to present its

FIFTH REPORT

Your Committee, in accordance with its Order of Reference of Thursday, May 3, 2001, has heard the Minister of Transport in order to receive a briefing on busing regulations and now reports thereon.

Your Committee recommends as follows:

That the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications be authorized to examine and report on issues facing the intercity busing industry;

That the Committee submit its final report no later than December 20, 2002; and

That the Committee be permitted, notwithstanding usual practices, to deposit any report with the Clerk of the Senate, if the Senate is not then sitting; and that the report be deemed to have been tabled in the Chamber.

Second reading of Bill S-31, An Act to implement agreements, conventions and protocols concluded between Canada and Slovenia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Senegal, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and Germany for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

The Honourable Senator Poulin moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Callbeck, that the Bill be read the second time.
