The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence has the honour to present its

THIRD REPORT

Your Committee was authorized by the Senate on May 31, 2001, to conduct an introductory survey of the major security and defence issues facing Canada with a view to preparing a detailed work plan for future comprehensive studies.

Pursuant to section 2:07 of the Procedural Guidelines for the Financial Operation of Senate Committees, the budget application submitted was printed in the Journals of the Senate of June 7, 2001. On June 11, 2001, the Senate approved the release of $100,500 to the Committee and on November 6, 2001 the Senate approved the release of $95,500 to the Committee.

The report of the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration recommending the release of additional funds is appended to this report.

APPENDIX (B) TO THE REPORT

THURSDAY, November 29, 2001

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration has examined the budget presented to it by the Standing Committee on National Security and Defence for the proposed expenditures of the said Committee for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2002 for the purpose of its Special Study to conduct an introductory survey of the major security and defence issues facing Canada with a view to preparing a detailed work plan for future comprehensive studies, as authorized by the Senate on Thursday, May 31, 2001. The Committee recommends the release of the following additional funds:

Professional and Other Services    $ 0
Transport and Communications    $ 163,200
Other Expenditures    $ 5,000
TOTAL    $ 168,200
