Introduction and First Reading of Government Bills

A Message was brought from the House of Commons with a Bill C-58, an Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money for the federal public administration for the financial year ending March 31, 2006, to which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

The bill was read the first time.

The Honourable Senator Rompkey, P.C., moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Losier-Cool, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a second reading two days hence.

The Honourable Senator Meighen moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator LeBreton, that the report be adopted.

Consideration of the second report of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations (Report No. 75 — Disallowance), presented in the Senate on May 5, 2005.

Pursuant to subsection 19.1(5) of the Statutory Instruments Act, the resolution contained in the Second Report of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations was deemed adopted.

That if the Senate has adjourned for a period exceeding one week, the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence be empowered, in accordance with Rule 95(3), to sit on June 20, 21 and 22, 2005.
