The Hon. the Speaker pro tempore: Honourable senators, it is with deep regret that I convey to you the news that the Honourable Senator Ian Shugart has passed away. There will be an opportunity for us to pay tribute at a later time but at this time I extend deepest sympathies on behalf of all senators and all associated with this place to his wife Linda, his son James, his daughters Robin and Heather, and their entire family.

Honourable senators, I would ask that you rise and join with me in a minute of silent tribute.

(Honourable senators then stood in silent tribute.)

Business of the Senate

Hon. Patti LaBoucane-Benson (Legislative Deputy to the Government Representative in the Senate): Honourable senators, out of respect for our friend and colleague the Honourable Senator Shugart, with leave of the Senate and notwithstanding rule 5-13(2), I move:

That the Senate do now adjourn.

Hon. Senators: Agreed.
