The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 9:00 a.m. in the Royal Sutton Ballroom, Sutton Place Hotel, Toronto, the Chairman, the Honourable Michael Kirby, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Austin, P.C., Callbeck, Joyal, P.C., Kelleher, P.C., Kirby, Kolber and Oliver (7).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Di Nino and Poy (2).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 22, 1997, the committee resumed its examination into the state of the financial system in Canada and in particular its study of the Task Force on the Future of the Canadian Financial Services Sector. (See Issue No. 1, October 23, 1997, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
Mr. Reuber made an opening statement and then, along with Mr. Sabourin, answered questions.
Mr. Brown made an opening statement and then answered questions.
Ms Kempston Darkes made an opening statement and then, along with other witnesses, answered questions.
Mr. Cara made an opening statement and then answered quesitons.
At 12:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
